1. Recipes

You want to feed the best food to your doggo. But what if your dog doesn’t like the recipe or it is not good for your dog’s specific needs?

I have described five of this brand’s dry food formulas in this section. After reading this, you will know which recipe to choose and which to pass.

ShowTime Premium Performance Formula 27/20

  • 100% complete nutrition
  • Ideal for growing puppies
  • For all activity levels
  • High-quality proteins
  • Premium ingredients

The ShowTime 27/20 claims it offers our furry friends a complete and balanced diet.

It contains poultry and porcine meal as its first ingredient-a great source of high-quality protein.

Also, it has a higher percentage of fat, which means the recipe can help your pup maintain proper body functions. It will promote healthy tissue and muscles.

It comes with a fish meal and powdered flaxseed, which can contribute to shiny and healthy hair, coat, and skin.

The beet pulp found in this recipe is a significant source of fiber, which can help your dog properly digest the food.

It contains many vitamins and minerals, including vitamins E and A. It helps in maintaining a good immune system.

The whole grain ground wheat and corn provide dogs with carbohydrates necessary for their daily activities.

This formula is ideal for active dogs, providing them with the necessary stamina. If you have a growing puppy who is super active, this formula would be a good choice for them.

ShowTime Premium Kennel Formula 21/12

  • Ideal for dogs with low to moderate levels of activity
  • Premium quality proteins and fat
  • Made by a dog nutritionist
  • Balanced diet
  • No supplement is needed

This recipe claims to offer complete nutrition to our dogs. It is made with ingredients your dog needs to do their daily activities.

It has ground whole wheat as its first ingredient, a great source of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and fiber.

The poultry and porcine meal in this recipe is a powerhouse of protein. It’s also an excellent source of essential amino acids, which can help in tissue repair and develop muscles, making your dog’s skin and fur shiny and healthy.

The vitamin A in the ingredients offers many benefits. It aids in night vision, healthy eyes, and the immune system’s proper functioning.

Vitamin E helps in preventing oxidative damage in your dog. It helps in the proper functioning of your dog’s cells.

ShowTime Advanced Endurance Formula 31/22

  • Made by an expert nutritionist for dogs
  • Ideal for adult dogs who work hard
  • Increases energy levels
  • Improves joint health
  • Grain-inclusive formula

There is one thing similar between all the dry food recipes made by this brand. All of them claim to offer balanced nutrition to your dog.

The main ingredient in this formula is poultry and porcine meal. It is a great protein source that helps maintain muscle tone, repair bones, and teeth, and prevent infection. It is beneficial for the muscle growth of your canine buddy.

It is filled with essential amino acids, vitamins, and minerals: the vitamins E and A help your doggo to maintain a healthy gut.

The chelated minerals used in this recipe help your dog to absorb minerals in a better way.

If you have a supremely active dog, it would need a high level of carbohydrates in its regular diet. The ground wheat and brewer’s rice in this recipe offer your dog a good dose of carbohydrates to remain active all day.

The poultry fat, fish meal, and ground flaxseed contain omega fatty acids required to maintain your dog’s coat and skin.

And did I tell you that this recipe has chondroitin sulfate and glucosamine?

It is great for dogs with weak joints.

This recipe is ideal for dogs who perform under high stress.

ShowTime Puppy 30/20

  • Meant for dogs of all breeds
  • Offers good digestibility
  • Filled with vitamins and minerals
  • Perfect ratio of protein and fat
  • High-quality ingredients

This recipe’s poultry and the porcine meal is listed as their main ingredient. It supplies essential amino acids to build your dog’s nails, tendons, cartilage, ligaments, muscles, nails, hair, and skin. It’s also a significant source of protein.

The beet pulp in the recipe provides fiber, which will help your furry friend have healthy and regular bowel movements.

Grain-inclusive corn and wheat in this dog food recipe have high levels of carbohydrates needed for your dog to stay active.

If your dog is healthy from the inside, it will reflect on its coat and skin from the outside. And that is what vitamin E in this dog food recipe does.

ShowTime Chicken and Rice 24/14

  • Formulates by a nutritionist
  • Chicken meal is the first ingredient
  • Promotes good health
  • Brewer’s rice is the second ingredient
  • High-quality proteins

Knowing that a professional nutritionist formulates this recipe will definitely give you peace of mind!

The ingredients will provide a balanced diet, so you don’t need to feed any supplements to your doggo.

At the heart of this dog food formula lies chicken meal, which is usually dried and ground chicken meat. It is filled with protein that your dog needs for muscle growth and the proper functioning of the immune system.

Brewer’s rice is the second ingredient listed on the label of this dog food recipe. Brewer’s rice has trace amounts of calcium, potassium, magnesium, vitamin B6, iron, and protein.

The beet pulp in this dog food formula comes with essential fiber needed to maintain intestinal health.

The antioxidants in ground whole wheat boost your dog’s immune system. It fights free radical damage and protects your dog. Also, it slows down the aging process. Isn’t that awesome?

The Verdict | ★★

What I liked the most about ShowTime dog food recipes is that some of them are made by an expert nutritionist who knows best about your dog’s needs.

However, I don’t particularly appreciate that there are only a few varieties when choosing the best recipe for your furry buddy.

This brand’s recipes mainly focus on your dog’s activity levels. But you will be highly disappointed if you want dog food recipes for any specific dietary need, breed, or age.

Also, if you are into feeding grain-free food to your dog, you will be disappointed.

I’m not very impressed with ShowTime dog food, as I found all their recipes almost similar. Of course, there are exceptions.

2. Ingredients

If you ask me, “What is the first thing you notice while choosing food for your pooch?”

My answer would be “The ingredients.”

If you are concerned about your dog’s health, you can look for my reviews if you have any specific dog food brands in mind.

This section discusses the first four ingredients ShowTime has used in its dry dog food formula.

Of course, not all recipes have the same primary ingredients.

Are you ready to know what to get in a ShowTime dry dog food bag?

Read on.

Poultry & Porcine Meal

When it comes to “meals” in dog food, know that it is not the same as real meat. Instead, the meat is rendered, dried, and grounded. It contains the skin and flesh of the animal. And it can be with or without bones.

The first ingredient in ShowTime dry dog food is poultry and porcine meal. It is a meat concentrate. It is a great source of protein and is said to have about 300% more protein than fresh pork or poultry.

Isn’t that amazing?

It improves your dog’s immune system and aids in muscle growth. Also, it contains glucosamine, which helps build cartilage tissue and makes your dog’s joints healthy.

Ground Whole Wheat

It’s an ingredient that I don’t like in dog food. It is similar to corn, a filler ingredient in dog food recipes.

Yes, it does provide your pup with energy. But nothing more than that. Of course, some say that it has antioxidants, minerals, vitamins, and fiber.

So, deciding if you want to feed this to your doggo is up to you.

Corn Gluten Meal

Once most of the starchy carbohydrate content is removed from corn, it is left with a rubber-like residue. That is gluten.

Corn gluten meal comes with about 60%-70% protein per gram and has three times higher protein content than chicken.

Besides protein, it also provides carbohydrates that your dog can digest easily.

Chicken Fat (Preserved with BHA)

The fourth ingredient used in the dry dog food from the house of ShowTime is the fat rendered from chicken.

It contains many linoleic acids, which make your pup’s coat and skin healthy. It aids their overall growth and contributes to maintaining a healthy immune system.

Controversial Ingredients

Sometimes, pet food brands think only about their profit and use low-quality ingredients in dog food formulas.

The are some controversial ingredients found in ShowTime dog food too. Have a look below.

Corn Gluten Meal

This by-product of corn processing doesn’t offer the same nutritional value you get from animals. Yes, it does provide a lot of protein, but the quality of protein is compromised here.

It doesn’t have the crucial amino acids your pup needs for their overall good health and growth.

Chicken Fat (Preserved with BHA)

Their chicken fat is preserved with BHA. There is a debate about BHA leading to diseases such as cancer.

Of course, it is not proven yet. But why take chances when it’s the health of your doggo we are concerned about?

Wheat Middlings

It’s a by-product of cereal grains processing. Many pet food manufacturers use it to reduce the overall cost of their food formulas.

If you want to feed high-quality food to your pup, it would be better to skip this ingredient of inferior quality.

Beet Pulp

Yes, it has some nutritional value but is a filler. And I have already discussed how fillers work.

Menadione Sodium Bisulfite Complex

It’s nothing but a vitamin K. It is often associated with toxicity in dogs’ livers. It can even cause allergic reactions. And it leads to red blood cell breakdown.

The Verdict | ★★

Honestly, I’m disappointed looking at the list of ingredients this brand uses in its dry dog food options. There are so many controversial ingredients.

ShowTime has used many different by-products in its dog food formulas, which I prefer to avoid.

They use “meal” instead of real, fresh meat and fish. Again, this is something I don’t like.

Yes, some of their food products are formulated by an expert nutritionist. But I would be happy if the brand used real meat and high-quality ingredients instead of by-products and fillers.

And that is the reason I’m giving ShowTime dog food 2 stars!

3. Nutritional Analysis

Now it’s time to look at their nutritional value as well.

After all, the food you choose to feed your dog must meet your furry buddy’s nutritional needs, right?

In this section, I have listed the protein, fat, fiber, moisture, and calorie content of ShowTime dry dog food products.

Have a look!

NutrientContent (per serving)
Crude Protein (min)21-31%
Crude Fat (min)12-22%
Crude Fiber (max)2.5-4%
Moisture (max)12%
Calories330-500 kcal/cup

Protein

According to AAFCO, a growing dog needs at least 18% dry matter as their daily protein requirement. It will need at least 8% if it is an adult dog.

From the above chart, you can see that the protein content ranges between 21% to 31% in ShowTime dog food, which meets your dog’s protein requirement.

There are a total of ten amino acids that are essential for the growth of your dog. It is created once protein is broken down. And these nutrients are something that must be provided to your dog through proper diet, as your dog cannot create them in their body.

Fat

Your adult dog needs at least 5.5% fat in their daily diet. And if you look at the chart above, you will see that ShowTime dog food offers 12-22% fat in their dry food formulas.

Fat provides your dog with omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. It helps in the maintenance of shiny coats and skin. Also, fat helps in absorbing fat-soluble vitamins too.

Lack of enough fat can result in dry and dull skin and fur, which can develop into other skin issues.

Fiber

Adult dog needs at least 2.5% fiber from their regular diet. And from the chart of nutritional value above, you can already see that the dry food formulas from the house of ShowTime have fiber ranging from 2.5% to 4%.

That’s a good enough percentage!

Fiber keeps your dog’s colon and gut health great.

Moisture

Most dry kibbles offered by different brands have a 6-10% moisture content. In contrast, the dry food formulas from the house of ShowTime have a moisture content of 12%.

Moisture is very important in a dog’s diet. Water is needed for their body parts to function properly. Also, adequate water in your dog’s body ensures the nutrients from its diet are absorbed without issues.

Calories

A healthy adult dog needs 400 calories every day. The dry dog food formulas from ShowTime have 330 to 500 calories per cup, depending on the recipe you choose.

Author’s Note: The nutritional content of all ShowTime dry dog food recipes is not the same. It varies depending on the formula you choose.

The Verdict | ★★★

As you can see, this brand’s dry dog food has surpassed the required amount of protein, fat, and fiber.

Yes, the calorie content has fallen slightly short, but then the maximum calorie content is high.

So, I’m giving the nutritional value section 3 stars!

4. Price

A bag of 20lb dog food is $17.99. When you choose a 50lb bag, the price can be around $43.50.

So, you can see that this brand has priced its products reasonably. It is great for pet parents who are on a tight budget.

The price is good for what you get.

The Verdict | ★★★★

If you look at this brand’s recipes, then the pricing is okay.

The ingredients used by this brand are mostly economical and in some cases, problematic. So, if the price were high, that would not be justified.

So, if you are looking for low-priced dog food, this brand can be an option. But if you want to feed your dog high-quality formulas, you better skip this brand.

5. Recall History

I’m the happiest while writing this! Do you know why?

The ShowTime dog food brand has yet to face any recall to date.

The Verdict | ★★★★★

When a brand faces a recall, it primarily indicates an issue with its dog food products. There can be issues regarding contamination or poisoning or any other thing.

But a recall is not always bad. Companies who worry about your dog go for voluntary recall when they have doubts about their products.

But, as I told you, the ShowTime dog food brand has no recall history, meaning all their dry dog food formulas are safe for your dog to eat.

How does Showtime Dog Food Compare to the Competition?

How does Showtime Dog Food Compare to the Competition

ShowTime dog food formulas have good nutritional value. All their recipes’ protein, fat, and fiber content meets the AAFCO requirements.

But when it comes to the ingredients, they use many controversial ingredients, fillers, and by-products, making them not the best choice for health-conscious dog parents.

Coming to the variety, they have only seven dry dog food options. If your dog has any specific dietary requirements, you will be disappointed.

But if you don’t have a tight budget, go for some other brand with real meat and fish as ingredients and devoid of fillers and by-products.
